Cotopaxi

One of the great trips Ecuador has to offer is a visit to the Cotopaxi National Park. The stunning and almost perfectly symmetrical cone of the Cotopaxi Volcano is the tallest peak of the eastern chain of the Andes.

At 5,897 m, Cotopaxi, which means ‘shining peak’, is the world's tallest continuously active volcano. It has erupted some 50 times since 1738, and lava flows from past volcanic activities can be seen in its vicinity.
