Great Escape Cotopaxi: Hacienda Hato Verde

There is no better way to enjoy an Andean tour of the Cotopaxi area than with a stay at the family run, working farm, Hacienda Hato Verde. The breathtaking snow capped Cotopaxi Volcano dominates the local landscape. With trips to colourful local markets and indigenous villages, hiking, horse back riding and a visit to the dramatic Quilotoa Crater Lake, this Cotopaxi tour is packed full of memorable experiences.

Day 1 Pasochoa
Your English speaking guide will pick you up in Quito. In the morning visit the Pasochoa Reserve, one of the few remaining original Andean Forests which has a great variety of bird and plant life. Enjoy a hike through the forest. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon continue onto the Cotopaxi area, depending on the day of the week you may be able to visit a local market, then continue onto Hacienda Hato Verde where you will spend the night. Enjoy a short walk around the hacienda or sit back and soak up the homely atmosphere. Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Hato Verde. (L,D)

Day 2 Cotopaxi National Park
After a country breakfast at the hacienda enjoy a full day visit to the Cotopaxi National Park. Depending on your interests enjoy a hike, horse back ride or a four wheel drive visit to this wonderful world of the Ecuadorian paramo. The majestic snow-capped Cotopaxi Volcano is the highest active volcano in the world.Lunch at a local hacienda. In the afternoon return to Hato Verde. Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Hato Verde. Day 3 Quilotoa Crater Lake
After breakfast set off for a full day tour to the stunning Quilotoa Crater Lake, with a stop off at the village of Tigua on the way to see the colorful paintings which are produced by the local indigenous artists. Box lunch provided. On arrival at Quilotoa enjoy a hike down to the beautiful blue/green waters of the crater lake. Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Hato Verde. (B,L,D)

Day 4 Pastocalle Chauqi Hike – Indigenous Market - Quito
After breakfast, enjoy a wonderful 3 hour hike in the area of the Illiniza Volcanos. Lunch in a local restaurant. Depending on the day of the week visit a colourful indigenous market such as Saquisili or Pujili, before returning to Quito. (B,L)
