Great Escape Cuenca: Caballo Campana

Cuenca is a favourite destination amongst visitors to Ecuador. The colonial atmosphere that the city offers, with its lovely churches and architecture, takes one back in time. Taking full advantage of the wonderful natural surroundings that Cuenca boasts, this trip also includes hikes, horseback riding, indigenous markets and a not-to-be-missed visit to the magical Inca ruins at Ingapirca.

Day 1 Quito – Cuenca
After an early morning flight from Quito, arrive in the beautiful colonial city of Cuenca. Your English speaking guide will meet you at Cuenca airport. In the morning enjoy a tour of the city of Cuenca including visits to the main churches, the flower market, a stroll along the river, and a museum of your choice. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon enjoy a hike or horse back ride in the grounds of the Hacienda Caballo Campana. Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Caballo Campana.

Day 2 Ingapirca Inca Ruins
After breakfast at the hacienda set off for a full day visit to the magical Inca ruins at Ingapirca, which are found around 1 hour north of Cuenca. After a full tour of the ruins, enjoy lunch at the local hosteria. In the afternoon, depending on your interests enjoy an easy 2.5 hour hike in the area or return to Cuenca for some free time to explore and shop in the city. Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Caballo Campana.

Day 3 Cajas National Park
After breakfast set off towards the nearby Cajas National Park, a wonderful nature reserve situated in the Ecuadorian Paramo. Enjoy a 3 hour moderate hike around the stunning lakes and lagoons that this area is famous for. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon return to Cuenca and relax at the local hot springs which are located near Hacienda Caballo Campana. Dinner and overnight at Hacienda Caballo Campana.

Day 4 Cuenca – Gualaceo and Chordeleg – Quito
After breakfast, set off to visit some of the surrounding market towns such as Gualaceo and Chordeleg. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon catch your return flight to Quito.
